Halogen-free insulation for applications with high safety requirements
The choice of an insulation material does not depend exclusively on its thermal performance. In certain environments, safety, material composition, behavior in the event of fire and compatibility with the system become fundamental requirements from the design stage onwards.
IT-FLEX HF was developed in response to these requirements. It is EVOCELL&MOBIUS' Halogen Free elastomeric foam solution, developed for the thermal insulation of heating, air conditioning, refrigeration and industrial applications, with characteristics particularly suitable for sectors with high safety requirements such as marine, railway and Data Center applications.
What does Halogen Free mean?
Halogens are a family of chemical elements that includes, among others, chlorine, fluorine and bromine. Their presence in the composition of materials can be particularly relevant in environments where greater attention must be paid to emissions generated in the event of fire.
IT-FLEX HF is a closed-cell flexible elastomeric foam (FEF), manufactured in compliance with EN 14304 and produced without the use of CFCs, HCFCs and PVC. The material is also free from halogens, dust and fibers.
This formulation makes it particularly suitable when, in addition to insulation performance, the project requires greater attention to the composition of the materials used.
Thermal performance and system protection
The Halogen Free formulation maintains the characteristics required for thermal insulation.
IT-FLEX HF has a thermal conductivity λ ≤ 0.039 W/mK at 0 °C and a water vapor diffusion resistance factor μ ≥ 2,000, characteristics that contribute to the efficiency of the insulation and the protection of the system.
The product can be used with fluid temperatures between -50 °C and +130 °C; for adhesive tapes and sheets, the maximum operating temperature is +90 °C.
It is also compliant with EN 13468 for the prevention of corrosion of pipes and is particularly recommended for the insulation of stainless steel pipes.
Safety in the event of fire: a strategic requirement
In environments characterized by a large number of people, sensitive equipment or critical infrastructure, the behaviour of materials in the event of fire is of particular importance.
IT-FLEX HF is designed to offer low smoke emission and low smoke toxicity in the event of fire, a characteristic that, together with the absence of halogens, makes it particularly suitable for applications where safety requirements are more stringent.
The product also has specific reaction-to-fire classifications depending on the format and thickness and is UL Approved – Flame Class HF 1.
Marine and railway: certifications for specific applications
IT-FLEX HF is particularly well suited to marine and railway applications, where the selection of materials must meet specific requirements.
For the marine sector, IT-FLEX HF is compliant with Directive 2014/90/EU MED, relating to marine equipment.
In the railway sector, the product achieves the classification HL1/R1 according to EN 45545-2, the European standard that defines the fire behavior requirements of materials and products used on railway vehicles.
These certifications make it possible to respond in a targeted manner to the needs of projects in which material safety represents an essential element.
Data Centers and sensitive environments
The evolution of technological infrastructure is drawing greater attention to the choice of materials used in the technical systems of Data Centers and CEDs.
In these environments, characterized by the continuous presence of electronic equipment and by the need to guarantee reliability and operational continuity, the absence of halogens and, in particular, chlorine represents an element to be considered when designing the insulation.
Due to these characteristics, IT-FLEX HF is also used in other sensitive environments such as hospitals, schools, clean rooms and airports, as well as in industrial and HVAC systems.

IT-FLEX HF combines thermal insulation, absence of halogens and specific certifications in a single solution designed for applications in which the choice of material must go beyond the unique energy performance.
Available in tubes, sheets in rolls and adhesive tapes, it makes it possible to meet different system requirements while maintaining the characteristics of Halogen Free technology.
However, every project has different operating conditions and requirements. For this reason, the choice of insulation must take into account operating temperatures, type of system, installation environment and applicable regulations.
